Effort Continues to ID Body
Police in Chesterfield County are still trying to find out whose remains were found in a stolen car in the Appomattox River.
Investigators say the older-model Oldsmobile had been on the river bottom for close to ten years. The remains, Captain Terry Patterson said, are skeletal and they’ve ruled out the registered owner of the car, who reported it stolen in November 2003 and who is still alive.
Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Captain William Knott told the Progress Index the report was related to a domestic argument between a man and a woman who were in some kind of a relationship. Investigators are looking for dental records of an individual they believe might identify the remains.
It isn’t clear how the person inside the car died and it's still not clear how the car ended up in the river. Patterson believes it was driven into the water.
