Senator Warner Hosting Roundtable

INTRO: Sen. Mark Warner is in town this afternoon for a roundtable discussion with area small business owners and bankers.

The Senator wants to talk about his proposal to help small businesses get access to credit.  He has been working with the White House to find ways to unclog frozen credit lines.  His proposal is part of legislation that’s already passed a House committee and it will come up for a vote in Senate legislation some time in the next couple of weeks.  Warner wants to invest a small amount of federal money into an existing program that links community bankers with small businesses encouraging approval of loans that they would make if the economy was stronger.  The meeting will begin at 2:00 at Consolidated Bank and Trust, the bank founded in 1903 by Maggie Walker as the St. Luke Penny Savings Bank.
