Henrico Woman Charged With Defrauding Immigrants
Federal agents have arrested the Vice President of Marketing for International Business Network, once based in Henrico county.
Mary Ann Smith has been charged with defrauding immigrants who were trying to bring family members to the U.S. The Better Business Bureau and ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, investigated International Business Network for more than year. The BBB was contacted by an individual who had paid $40,000 for visas for relatives from Cambodia, according to Tom Gallagher, and IBN was demanding additional fees to cover things like health insurance. Some of the money was supposed to be for airline tickets that were never purchased. There were other similar complaints, Gallagher said, from people with relatives in Africa and Latin America.
