Jimmy Dean Dead at 81
Country music legend and Varina resident Jimmy Dean died Sunday night at the age of 81. He was best known for his smash hit about a workingman hero, “Big Bad John,” and as an entrepreneur for his sausage brand. But here, his friends remember how he used to share with them stories and songs like this one in 1996.
Jimmy Dean could have lived anywhere he wanted, but he chose to spend his retirement years along the James River in Varina, where he shared much of his good fortune with the community.
He loved his adopted state and he and Donna even wrote a song about it.
[Song: Virginia, sweet old Virginia, there’s no place I’d rather be.
Virginia, sweet old Virginia.
My old Dominion home keeps calling me.]
Jimmy Dean died quietly in his Varina home Sunday night at the age of 81.
