Feedmore Ramps up to Feed Hungry School Children
Within a few days, some 20,000 Richmond area children, who depend on school lunch programs for a square meal, will have to find it somewhere else. As Charles Fishburne reports, Central Virginia’s “Feedmore” is ready to fill the gap.
Summertime is a quandary for thousands of children and their parents.
Lohr: Everybody gets real excited because it’s summertime and they are gonna be off from school. But unfortunately for the over 20,000 children in the City of Richmond who are hunger-insecure, this is not a good thing.
Many of those children got free or reduced-price breakfasts and lunches at school.. Now Feedmore is ramping up to be sure none of them goes hungry this summer.
Lohr: We’re gonna be doing about 1700 breakfasts and about 2400 lunches every day.
Fay Lohr is CEO of Feedmore, the former Central Virginia Food Bank. And with summer coming on, Lohr says food, money and volunteers are always welcome.
