Wall of Honor Memorial Service
Last week, Governor Bob McDonnell, Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli spoke to a crowd of friends and families of fallen Virginia soldiers to honor them for their service. Craig Carper reports.
While serving as Attorney General, Governor Bob McDonnell created a Wall of Honor in the lobby of his Richmond office, in memorial of Virginia soldiers killed in the line of duty since the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole in 2000.
For the last four years there has been an annual memorial service at the steps of the State Capitol, to recognize those added to the wall over the past year and years prior.
Addressing the crowd of several hundred people, Governor McDonnell expressed his gratitude for the sacrifices made by the soldiers and their families.
McDonnell: For 20 years after the Vietnam War we failed as a nation to say thank you and to honor those 57,000 men and women who died in Vietnam. Here in Virginia we will never let that happen again. We will always honor and remember and salute those who have died for freedom.
Since 2000, 206 Virginia soldiers have been killed in the line of duty.
