NOAA Predicts Busy Hurricane Season
Hurricane Season begins next week, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has released its annual pre-season prediction, and as Charles Fishburne reports, they say it could be a busy one.
Hurricane season officially begins Tuesday, and NOAA says it could be a bad one.
Luchinko: We are facing a season that could rank among the more active on record.
NOAA Administrator Jane Luchinko.
Luchinko: There is a 85% chance of an above-normal hurricane season in the Atlantic this year.
That would be 8 to 14 hurricanes. In Virginia, the Department of Emergency Management says this is the perfect time to prepare.
Southard: During this week you can take advantage of buying emergency supplies and not paying any sales tax.
Laura Southard says this is what you need, minimum:
Southard: Three days of packaged food that doesn’t need refrigeration; three days of water for each family member, that’s one gallon per person per day. A battery-powered radio so you can listen to the latest local media report, and a family plan. It’s real important to have a plan.
