Some Good Budget News for Prince George Schools
Prince George County Schools aren’t taking quite the budgetary hit they were expecting this year.
The Board of Supervisors has set June 8th for a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the county budget. It would mean $3.7 million for the school system. The Prince George budget was done before the General Assembly adjourned and, in the end, the county got more state and federal money than it expected. There were also some accounting changes and a carryover of unspent funds, according to County Administrator John Kines, Jr.
The new total also includes some $300,000 in federal impact funds. That’s money intended to help with the cost of educating the children of Ft. Lee military personnel. Kines told The Progress Index he’s written to the U.S. Education Department, which still owes Prince George County impact fund money for the past four fiscal years.
