State Shuts Down Friday Due to Budget Cuts

Some 97 thousand state employees will be taking a furlough day Friday, without pay. Charles Fishburne reports.

The state will all but shut down Friday. One furlough day was included in Governor Kaine’s budget for 2010, designed to save the state 16.9 million dollars. It impacts most full-time state employees. Law enforcement and other 24/7 facilities can and probably will take an alternate day, as state police, for example, gear up for another saturation patrol this Memorial Day weekend. DMV customer service centers will be closed. And, if you have any end-of the-month business to transact with any state agency, remember, that furlough day is this Friday.
