Pfizer Closing Henrico Plant
Over the next two or three years Pfizer, Inc. will pull the plug on its manufacturing plant in Henrico.
The former Wyeth plant, on Darbytown Road in the eastern part of the county, employs just over 500 people. They make products like Robitussin, Dimetapp, and ChapStick there. All of these products were made in this area for years by A.H. Robins, which was acquired by Wyeth in 1989. The manufacturing will change to outside suppliers, or be moved to Canada or Puerto Rico.
Pfizer bought Wyeth last year and the company says it is working now to find a buyer for the property. Pfizer Consumer Healthcare will keep its product development center on Sherwood Avenue in Richmond. About 300 people work there.
Pfizer, the world’s biggest drug maker, is closing eight other plants and cutting 5500 or more jobs.
