W&M to Offer Degree with Scottish University
William and Mary and the University of St. Andrews in Scotland will offer an undergraduate, joint degree program beginning in the Fall of 2011. Charles Fishburne reports.
Students will spend two full years at each university, deeply immersed in each other’s culture.
Koloski: The single most powerful thing about study abroad is that it teaches you humility in the broadest human sense of what that word means.
Laurie Koloski is Director of International Studies at William and Mary.
Koloski: It teaches you to understand that really in the grand scheme of things you are small, tiny piece of a big, huge human society. And to me that’s incredibly valuable, it’s incredibly enriching and it’s a lot of fun. It’s amazing to sort of go out there and see how other people live their everyday lives, their political systems, their economic systems, their successes, their failures and so on. It’s just a wonderful experience. I spent four years in Poland between my second and third years in college and it changed my life.
Joint degrees are in four fields: economics, English, history and international relations.
