Chesterfield Launches Detailed County Information Website
Chesterfield County has just launched a web site that features…among other things… aerial photos of your house…and everybody else’s…in fact every single feature on the county map. Charles Fishburne reports.
The site is available at http://citizengis.chesterfield.gov/
You can zoom in on your neighborhood, your house, your car!
Condrey: They can look all the way down and see whose car was parked in the driveway at the time the picture was taken.
Barry Condrey, Chief Information Officer.
Condrey: It’s not so detailed that we are going to compromise any personal information. You can’t look in a window, for example, but you can get a pretty good idea of the layout of your own lot and your own area within in the county.
There are layers and layers of information to show property lines, subdivision streets, public easements, school districts, flood plains, even fire hydrants.
Condrey: You would be amazed how many people come down to the county with very simple needs. We are now giving them the tools so they can do this on their own.
Go to CitizenGIS.Chesterfield.gov, install Microsoft’s Silverlight plug-in for free, and click away.
Condrey: As long as you can click a mouse, point click drag, and you have special awareness of basic computer skills you can use this application.
Charles Fishburne, WCVE News.
