Delta Doubles Service from Richmond to New York

Delta Airlines announced yesterday it is doubling service between Richmond and New York; and as Charles Fishburne reports, it may be an indication that business is getting better for the airline industry.

Delta says Richmond is an important business center in the South and an ideal market in which to expand.

Bell:  Delta will add two additional daily departures from Richmond to New York LaGuardia.  That will increase the current three to a total of five departures.
Troy Bell, Richmond International.

Bell:  And then, for JFK, one additional departure, so from one to two.  Both these changes go into effect on September the seventh.

March was the first increase in passenger traffic in nearly two years, and April numbers, though not yet released, are also looking good.  Richmond traffic grew 45% after 2005, when Air Tran, and later Jet Blue, arrived with low cost fares, but the recession interrupted that growth.  Bell says, it could be back.
