Ex Detective Charged

A retired Norfolk detective has been indicted by a federal grand jury on corruption charges.

Robert Ford is accused of accepting money from suspects in exchange for lying to prosecutors and judges.  The five count indictment was issued on Friday, and it was unsealed yesterday.  Ford, prosecutors say, provided valuable information to suspects in murder investigations to help them get out on bond or get a reduced sentence.  Ford’s lawyer told the Virginian Pilot his client investigated some of Norfolk’s most difficult homicides over a 25-year career but he wouldn’t comment on the charges.
