Dramatic Decreases in Violent Crimes Statewide

Norman Westerberg is program manager for Uniform Crime Reporting for the state of Virginia.
Westerberg: Murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, all of those, again, are down in the state of Virginia. Most notably, however, robbery is down by nearly sixteen percent.
But Westerberg, who has done this kind of analysis for 35 years says…
Westerberg: They are actually so good that one wonders why there’s such a swing.
The one hundred and thirty-four page detailed document breaks down each locality and he says studying those numbers might reveal a program somewhere that is really working and might be used elsewhere. The report is available online at www.vsp.virginia.gov.
