McDonnell Hosts Law Enforcement Memorial Service
Yesterday Governor McDonnell hosted the annual memorial service to honor Virginian law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty over the past year. Craig Carper reports.
Corporal Christopher Kent Paschal of the Smith’s County Sheriff’s Office, Investigator Chadwick Alan Carr of the Green County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Sheriff Christopher Darby Ray of the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office all lost their lives in collisions last year while serving their respective counties.
Governor McDonnell commended the officer’s for their service and sacrifice.
McDonnell: We are a grateful commonwealth. We understand that those liberties, designed and enshrined by Mr. Jefferson some 234 years ago are really only as strong and as alive as there are men and women who are willing to daily defend those liberties. As we rejoice with the other 7.8 million Virginians that we still live in a mighty land of freedom, we know it’s because of the sacrifices of these men that have taken up the call to public safety that we honor today.
The event was attended by over a hundred family members, friends, fellow officers and state officials, who all came to pay tribute to the fallen officers.
