McDonnell's First 100 Days

On Sunday Governor Bob McDonnell completed his 100th day in office. How has he done thus far? Craig Carper Reports.

Political Analyst Dr. Bob Holsworth says that Governor McDonnell deserves high marks for delivering on many of his key priorities.

Holsworth: On a lot of the big ticket items that he ran on, McDonnell’s done pretty well. He campaigned on the ground that he would try to address the budget shortfall without generally raising taxes. They were able to do that pretty successfully.

Holsworth also points to McDonnell’s success on his economic development proposals and efforts to expand Charter Schools. Governor McDonnell has received some negative attention from national media outlets on some of his struggles with social issues, and Holsworth says he will have to do some damage control among minority communities.

Holsworth: He spent the last three weeks responding to the attacks you might say in the national media about the confederate history proclamation, but there’s no doubt that national aspirations and national standing were probably damaged far more than his standing in Virginia.

Dr. Holsworth says McDonnell must stay on message and continue to address kitchen table issues like jobs in order to maintain his popularity…something that will surely be easier to do with Northrup Grumman’s announcement late yesterday that they intend to relocate their corporate headquarters to Virginia.
