Chester Firm’s Flag Day Project

A local waterproofing and foundation repair company in Chester will begin collecting old American Flags on Monday.

JES Basement Systems, on Southland Drive off the Jeff Davis Highway, is owned and operated by Jesse and Stella Waltz who, employees say, are patriotic people.

McLees:  Being headquartered in Virginia Beach they do a lot with the military.  Stella’s father is a WWII veteran.

The company’s Michelle McLees:

McLees:  We are collecting American flags that are worn, tattered or damaged, for proper retirement.

The flags are given to Boy Scout Troop 2815 on June 14th, Flag Day.

McNeilly:  A lot of people don’t know what to do with them.  Or they collect them, waiting for somebody to dispose of them properly.

Troop 2815 Scout Master Frank McNeilly explained that the point of all flag retirement ceremonies is to do it in a dignified way, honoring the symbol of our nation.  The flags are finally burned.  Last year JES stores in Chester, Virginia Beach, and Manassas collected 120 flags.
