McDonnell Appoints Economic Development and Jobs Creation Commission

Governor McDonnell has announced the members of his new Economic Development and Jobs Creation Commission, and plans to put them to work next month.

The Commission was created by Executive Order Number 1…just moments after Governor McDonnell took the oath of office.

McDonnell: There’s a lot of people hurting in Virginia.

Governor McDonnell… talking with us after a trip to Franklin in February…where 1100 people were losing their jobs at International Paper.

McDonnell: We’ve got hundreds of thousands of Virginians now that are unemployed.

He has said many times, jobs creation was his number one priority, and yesterday he appointed more than 60 members to a commission that will look at every aspect of creating jobs…public policy, regulations, incentives, taxes and cooperation among state agencies.

McDonnell: We need to be more competitive with neighboring states and with foreign countries and being able to attract big businesses here.

The Governor’s goals have not changed. First meeting of the commission is next month…they’ll report to him October 16th
