Traffic Delays Sunday Morning

Traffic could be backed up for several hours Sunday morning, as a giant C-130 transport plane is hauled from the Dinwiddie County Airport to Ft. Lee on several major highway arteries, including I-95, I-85, 295 and US 460.

Sunday morning is moving day at Ft. Lee, and automobile traffic will have to move over for a C-130 cargo aircraft making its final trip --- on the ground.

Eischen:   We are expecting some traffic delays along Interstate 85, 95, pretty much in the tri-cities area between the Dinwiddie Airport and Fort Lee.
Dawn Eischen at VDOT says the lanes won’t be completely closed, and traffic should be able to get around.

Eischen:   Folks in the tri-city area can expect at least 2-3 hours of potential delay.  All lanes will remain open, however, during the transport.
The C-130 will be reassembled at Ft. Lee’s new multi-mode training area, part of a base expansion that will see the population there double in size from 17,000 to 35,000 people by 2011.
