Senator Webb’s Bill on Senate floor for a Vote
Virginia Senator Jim Webb’s bill to create a Blue Ribbon Commission on Criminal Justice Reform has been voted out of the Judiciary Committee and is awaiting a vote on the Senate Floor.
Senator Webb has been three years pushing this legislation and even found himself on the cover of Parade Magazine with statements like this:
Webb: We are a country that’s got 5 percent of the world’s population and approximately 25% of the world’s prison population. We’re doing something different than other countries and something not necessarily correct.
Democratic Senator Webb joined with Republican Senators Orrin Hatch of Utah, Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, and Lindsay Graham of South Carolina to push for passage of the National Criminal Justice Commission Act.
Marshall: Our nation’s public safety and criminal justice agencies desperately need this roadmap.
Chief Mark Marshall from Smithfield, Virginia, along with members of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. The Blue Ribbon Commission would be charged with reviewing the nation’s criminal justice system and offering concrete recommendations for reform. It is now on the Senate floor.
