Richmond SPCA Getting to Know Martins

Former Ukrops shoppers are getting to know Martin’s, the grocery chain’s new owners. One non-profit group is happy for an ongoing relationship.

The Richmond SPCA had a close relationship with the Ukrop family.

Starr: Ukrop’s has provided us with all of our food, litter and treats for all of the animals in our care ever since we moved into this building in 2002.  Martin’s has agreed to continue that support.

Robin Starr, CEO at the SPCA, explained that last year about 28,000 pounds of pet food and 3,000 pounds of cat litter were provided. And there’s something else to consider.

Starr:  It means that our pets are on a consistent and healthy diet.

Consistent food is easier on the stomach for both dogs and cats, she said, especially those that are recovering.

Starr:  Martin’s is also sponsoring the Richmond SPCA Education Program.  We provide about 1700 hours of humane education to both adults and children throughout our community.
