Police Apprehend Man After He Abducts Girl

A Petersburg man is facing multiple charges in connection with an incident involving a 17 year old girl.

Investigators say the girl knew her abductor.

Molnar:  Delonte Carter, 21, is being held without bond at the Dinwiddie County Jail.

State Police Sgt. Tom Molnar:

Molnar:  On Monday around 11:30 Carter assaulted a 17-year-old female acquaintance at her residence in Petersburg.

He then, the Sergeant explained, abducted her at knifepoint, forcing her into her mother’s ’94 Pontiac. The young lady defended herself.

Molnar:  While travelling on Route 1 North near the 7100 block of Boydton Plank Road in Dinwiddie County, the victim reached over to the steering wheel and began blowing the vehicle’s horn to help draw attention to them.  She then grabbed the steering wheel, which caused the vehicle to crash.

Carter took off but a Dinwiddie Deputy caught him and held him until Sr. Trooper M. H. Hamer arrived to investigate the crash and arrested him on seven charges.

Molnar:  Several of these charges are felonies.  Those include unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, hit and run, and two counts of abduction.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the wreck.
