Lecture on Child Abuse Awareness
A Richmond group hopes to raise awareness of child abuse with a lecture at the Richmond Public Library.
The Thursday afternoon event features Dr. Bruce Perry of The Child Trauma Academy in Houston:
Harper: He is a internationally-known neuroscientist and physician and he has done really important research on the effects of child maltreatment on the development of the brain, ultimately, in early childhood.
Jeanine Harper is the Executive Director of Greater Richmond SCAN: Stop Child Abuse Now.
Harper: One of the things we know about child abuse, all forms of child abuse, is that it’s not something, you know, people openly want to acknowledge, that many times it’s hidden.
Dr. Perry will afford an opportunity for people to focus on the devastating effects of child abuse and neglect, on its prevalence and how often in goes unreported. The lecture will be in the Library Auditorium from 3 until 5pm.
