Which show do you want to watch on November 24? In November your picks examine the lives and livelihoods of two very different men. First, Rock Prophecies focuses on the story of rock 'n' roll photographer Robert M. Knight, who says, “I think I kinda collect rock stars.” How does he find up-and-coming rock stars - and how does he help them reach the limelight? Our second pick is Smokin’ Fish about Tlingit businessman Cory Mann, who says of himself, “I didn’t want to be Indian.” Yet he begins to yearn for smoked fish and decides to take a break from his business to smoke salmon at his family’s traditional fish camp - and to reconcile his modern life with his ancient culture.
The Programs
Rock Prophecies
Featuring unexpected turns and transcendent performances, Rock Prophecies goes behind the ropes and beyond the green rooms to view rock 'n' roll through the eyes of prolific photographer Robert M. Knight. He launched his 40-year career in 1968 with a line-up of now-legendary guitar heroes - Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin - as his first subjects, and went on to capture images of some of the greatest figures in rock 'n' roll history. During the documentary, many of Knight’s subjects (also friends) share their thoughts about the photographer in exclusive, illuminating interviews, including Jeff Beck, Slash, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, ZZ Top, Robert Cray,Carlos Santana, Def Leppard and many others. As he overcomes his self-doubt and fights to maintain his relevance, Rock Prophecies tells Knight's story of professional survival and private redemption. Crossing the line of detached photographer, Knight immerses himself in the careers of new artists, actively helping them catch a break in their pursuit of rock stardom.
Smokin’ Fish
Cory Mann is a quirky Tlingit businessman hustling to make a dollar in Juneau, Alaska. He gets hungry for smoked salmon, nostalgic for his childhood, and decides to spend a summer smoking fish at his family’s traditional fish camp. The unusual story of his life and the untold history of his people interweave with the process of preparing the food as he struggles to pay his bills, keep the IRS off his back, and keep his business afloat. By turns tragic, bizarre, or just plain ridiculous, Smokin’ Fish tells the story of one man’s attempts to navigate the messy collision between the modern world and an ancient culture.
