Virginia Tech Students’ Experiments On Board Rocket Launch

A team from Virginia Tech is at Wallops Island tomorrow morning (Thursday, August 23), for the launch of a suborbital rocket, carrying with it their experiments--and their hopes for a future in space exploration.

The recent success of NASA’s Mars Scientific Laboratory mission to deliver the Curiosity rover safely to Mars was due in part to the research conducted at Hampton, Virginia’s NASA Langley Research Center, which goes back decades.

Wallops Island, Va. -- Researchers from NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia will launch and deploy a large inflatable heat shield aboard a rocket traveling at hypersonic speeds this weekend during a technology demonstration test from the agency’s Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia.

Water Bottle Rockets: Going for the World Record

Visitors at the Science Museum of Virginia attempted to help set a Guinness World Record for water bottle rocket launches on July 4th. The Science Museum of Virginia teamed up with the joint NASA and University of Central Lancashire in an effort to set the world record for the most number of water rockets launched in one day, along with young rocket enthusiasts from around the country.
