Symphony Spotlight highlights the careers of orchestral musicians across the country. My guest for our August segment is Herb Smith, trumpeter with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in Rochester, NY. In addition to his orchestral work, Herb is the leader of his own jazz quartet, trumpet instructor at the Eastman Community Music School, and an composer/arranger.

New Release: Leonard Bernstein - Complete Solo Works for Piano

​Pianist Andrew Cooperstock releases this new recording of the piano works by Leonard Bernstein on Bridge Records. The two-disc recording marks the centennial celebration of Bernstein's birth and features collections dedicated to friends and colleagues, as well as two larger works for solo piano. As Cooperstock states, "Leonard Bernstein was one of the most significant American musical figures of the 20th century and it has been an honor to have performed his works throughout my career.

New Release: Impromptu

Pianist Shai Wosner's latest solo album, "Impromptu," features improvisationally inspired works by seven different composers.  Wosner has attracted international recognition for his exceptional artistry, music integrity, and insightful performances of a broad repertoire -- from Beethoven and Schubert to the music of today.

Composer Jack Gallagher Talks About His Work

American composer Jack Gallagher’s music has been performed and recorded by major symphony orchestras and many leading solo and chamber musicians. The Cleveland Plain Dealer said his music “evokes glowing images” and exhibits “glistening personality.” He’s been the recipient of many awards, grants and fellowships. Jack is currently a Professor of Music at The College of Wooster, Ohio.
