NASA + Mattel = Mars Explorer Barbie

NASA has teamed up with a lot of people in the past. So, this new collaborative project should come as no surprise. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has teamed up with the toy maker to bring yet another Barbie into this world. Mars Explorer Barbie is part of the “I Can Be” Barbie doll series by which they hope to inspire young girls to become more interested in science based careers.

Science of Professional Athlete Training

How about a little science mixed into our Washington Redskins training this summer? The air we breathe is one of our most precious resources. Take a deep breath. Now, let it out. Doesn’t that feel good? That oxygen in the air travels into our lungs and keeps our heart beating. Most of the time we don’t even notice! And sometimes, we actually take our air for granted! We shouldn’t. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CD), the prevalence of asthma increased from 7.3% in 2001 to 8.4% in 2010, when 25.7 million people were diagnosed with asthma.

Cicada-Fest 2013

There has been a LOT of commotion over these mysterious sporadic insects. The cicada emergence of 2013 has certainly caught the attention of a lot of people on the East Coast. As the southern states wrap up their cicada invasion, the northern portions of the country begin their turn!
