Blackmore's Night: A Knight in York

Blackmore’s Night is a British/American traditional folk rock duo formed in 1997, consisting of Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night. Legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, backed by a first-rate band, performs a show that includes renditions of "Gilded Cage," "Toast to Tomorrow," "Darkness," and "Dandelion Wine." As Ritchie Blackmore describes it, they began performing Renaissance music as a labor of love.

Twelve competitors from across the Commonwealth will convene at the studios of WCVE PBS Richmond on March 18, 2016 to compete for the title of state champion and represent Virginia at the national competition in May.

Did you know - the Community Idea Stations has a studio in the Virginia General Assembly building? Years ago, we seized the opportunity to establish a studio at the GAB as a way to play a role in keeping citizens informed about the decisions and deliberations of our State Legislature. Today, we report on the proceedings as well as providing valuable services to the House of Delegates, the Senate, and the Governor and other individuals in elected office.

WCVE Public Radio has a New Transmitter

From 88.9 WCVE Public Radio General Manager Bill Miller: After 18 months of planning, research, and active installation, the new transmitter and broadcast antenna for 88.9 WCVE is in operation, as of December 2015. Our corporate Board of Directors authorized us in May 2014 to use funds from our ongoing Capital Campaign to begin work on the project, which has a total price tag of $345,000.

An Evening with PBS and the Cast of Downton Abbey

From Katherine Mitchell, Director of Community Engagement – PBS was “in the house” Thursday evening (12/10) at the Lisner Auditorium for the Washington DC Downton Abbey premiere screening. With one of the highest per capita viewing rates of Downton Abbey in the country, we wouldn’t have missed it. It was the last U.S. screening that the cast would attend.
