In Your Ear Episode 24: Cadillac Sky, Hit & Run

Mon, 02/10/2014 - 2:18pm -- WCVE

We revisit five talented players who had a short but sweet ride as a progressive band called Cadillac Sky. Organized in 2002 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area by lead vocalist/songwriter Bryan Simpson, applying a Texas state of mind to the bluegrass framework, the band turned intriguing tunes and solid musicianship, into a meteoric career.

Then we hear from Hit & Run, the contemporary bluegrass band led by Nashvillian Rebecca Frazier and featuring husband John on mandolin and vocals, Berklee College of Music grad Kyle Tuttle on banjo, Brian Arrowood - who also tours with country star Travis Tritt - on fiddle, and acoustic bassist Royal Masat from Texas.

In Your Ear offers a chance to discover new artists and appreciate the “in the moment” creativity, inspiration and soul of live music. Studio A is a “great room,” a haven for artists with intimate, friendly and informed audiences and peerless audio fidelity. Host Tim Timberlake and In Your Ear studio president Carlos Chafin produce the programs, which feature three acts, reflecting the diversity and range of these special concerts. The eclectic selections cover many genres -- including bluegrass, jazz, blues, old time, Celtic, gospel and singer-songwriters of many styles. Artists range from superior local and regional talents, to premier acts from all over the country.

Production Funding of In Your Ear is made possible, in part, by... Hohner, Inc. Musical Instruments; Wine Lovers; TKL Product Corp. Cases & Bags; Dr. David R. Beam and Associates. Promotional support provided the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities’ Virginia Folklife Program.
