In this episode of In Your Ear, we share the work of three accomplished Carolina acts who have all been featured on this program before. First up, we revisit the two Swiss-born brothers Jens and Uwe Kruger and their bassist New Yorker Joel Landsberg. The trio was completely taken with American mountain music and would move to western North Carolina to be closer to it and to new friends like Deep Gap’s legendary Doc Watson. We’ll hear from Tar Heel tunesmith Jonathan Byrd with some select tracks from a captivating solo performance in Studio A back in December of 2010. North Carolina’s Harris Brothers feature Reggie on guitar and Samsonite suitcase kick drum, and Ryan on bass. Their Studio A performance in October of 2011 was kicked up a few notches by Virginia based fiddler Nate Leath.
In Your Ear offers a chance to discover new artists and appreciate the “in the moment” creativity, inspiration and soul of live music. Studio A is a “great room,” a haven for artists with intimate, friendly and informed audiences and peerless audio fidelity. Host Tim Timberlake and In Your Ear studio president Carlos Chafin produce the programs, which feature three acts, reflecting the diversity and range of these special concerts. The eclectic selections cover many genres -- including bluegrass, jazz, blues, old time, Celtic, gospel and singer-songwriters of many styles. Artists range from superior local and regional talents, to premier acts from all over the country.
Production Funding of In Your Ear is made possible, in part, by... Hohner, Inc. Musical Instruments; Wine Lovers; TKL Product Corp. Cases & Bags; Dr. David R. Beam and Associates. Promotional support provided the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities’ Virginia Folklife Program.
