Here's the thing about friends, sometimes they do pretty cool things, like when they travel to faraway places, like Ecuador, and bring back music for your show. Or when they partner up with you on a reggae duet (yes, I'm talking about the lead pictuare featuring Mick Jagger and Peter Tosh, not me). On this week's World Music Show (6/6), we'll delight in some of that friendliness. And with these two examples, you could say that I am vicariously living through friends, in one form or another.
The World Music Show
To some, different music, World Music in fact, can be an almost scary thing. Well, on this week's World Music Show (5/30), I'll set to ease your fears, if any. And, if you're not fearful of different beats, then this week's show will just be a good kick in the pants--you know, a show filled with a mixture of interesting beats culled from all over the globe.
So, once in awhile I like to do theme shows. Thus is the case for this weeks World Music Show (5/23). And, as eluded to in the head line for this week, it's all about the doubles...well, for the most part. We'll see how this adventure ends up because in this weeks particular theme, we'll run the gamut of frivolity. However, there may be a bump in the road of this challenge along the way.
Sometimes things boil down to this. Once in awhile, you just have to shuffle, as in hit the shuffle button. Perhaps this is true not only on your portable musical player of choice, but in life as well. You can get stuck doing the mundane. So on this week's World Music Show (5/16), we'll attempt to launch ourselves off of the lazy Susan of normality.
On this week's World Music Show (5/9), it's all about letting the sunshine in. Ok, sure, that's a kooky reference to a classic song (that would not be heard on this show), but it's also a nod to some of the songs you'll hear this week. However, unlike that classic reference, these songs won't be sappy (sorry classic song lovers). Plus, a bonus is that we'll also hear some new music.
Let's cut to the right to the chase. Time is of the essence for this week's World Music Show (5/2). Why? Not, sure. Perhaps it's just one of those week's in which I can't seem to catch up. But, for Saturday night's show, I'm planing on slowing down enough to enjoy what I'll be playing. And if you're having a similar week, perhaps you'll benefit from tunining in.
Of course, the answer to the headline is Love. But perhaps a better headline for this week should be: What makes the world Public Radio go round? Answer: you. Oh sure, some funding from our great underwriters as well as from some other sources helps too. But the bottom line is that you, our listeners, help make this World of Richmond Public Radio go round. You're the gravitational pull that keeps us spinning. Because without your invenstment, the spinning would stop.
This week's headline picture almost says it all. I mean, look--there's the radio tower, the signal and the words FM (we'll get to the band in a moment). And this theme about covers the depth of this week's World Music Show (4/18). Well, ok, really, that image is pretty much a catch-all. It could stand for anything. But it looks good, doesn't it? And as for the headline, well that's a reference to radio reporter/commentator Walter Winchell (his actual radio opening was: "Good evening, Mr. and Mrs.
Listen: There are some things you can sit out. That boring speech by that guy from accounting perhaps, or those vacation slides you've seen a hundred times from your Aunt Matilda perhaps.* But you definitely won't want to miss out on this week's World Music Show (4/11/15).
What a weird, wooley and wild show I've got lined up for you on this week's World Music Show (4/4). Maybe it's the fact that we just passed one of my favorite non-holidays, April Fools Day. Or perhaps, the reasoning behind this week's line up is that perhaps Spring is finally showing it's springy head. In any event, the tunes, genres, cultures and styles are quite unique.
