Join us this week for a Time for the Blues Valentine's Day Special! We'll play blues about romance for those in love and those who got the blues from being in love! Also, look for our repeat airing of last week's Gary Moore tribute show on March 4th due to the transmitter outage last weekend!
So you're in for a treat--John and I have just the right music to put you in the mood for love--or maybe some nachos! We'll hear from Roomful of Blues, the great voice of Finis Tasby, Lonnie Brooks live from 1968 and the Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin from her first album on Atlantic, "I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You"--hear a sample below!
But wait! There's more! How 'bout Little Walter, Kim Wilson (of the Fabulous Thunderbirds) and Irma Thomas belting out love won, love lost and maybe love "temporarily misplaced" songs? John says that's my relationship status but I don't agree--I just can't find where I put it! Later in the show we'll give you great smooth vocals from Johnny Ace, Roscoe Gordon and Jimmy Witherspoon! If your significant other isn't moved by this trio of true love songs, well, there's always the nachos!
While we're at it, here's what we have in store for you in the coming weeks--On February 19th, we'll feature our long overdue tribute to the legendary Etta James! Sadly enough, we have more tributes in the same show, including our good-bye to Hubert Sumlin, Howlin Wolf's long-time friend and a really unique blues guitarist in his own right! We'll also remember blues/R&B bandleader, musician and producer Johnny Otis! We lost these three incredible talents all within a few weeks of each other as the year ended and you will love what we play in their honor!
On February 26th, join us as John and I hit the studio with arms full of CDs and start throwin' them around at each other in an uninterrupted session from start to finish! You'll hear all our mistakes! But we won't make any! What're we playing? You'll have to tune in--John and I never tell each other in advance when we start Throwin' the Blues!
Finally (as I mentioned above), since so few folks heard our show last week (2/5/12) featuring our tribute to blues guitar master Gary Moore, we decided to run it again on March 4th! We'll also have some more Goldwax sides on that show! We humbly thank you for your patience during the outage and your calls of support requesting we air it again!
So catch a nap, buy those roses and candy, stay up late and let us entertain you! (Also try cheesburgers and champagne--trust me!) Time for the Blues with John Porter and Henry Cook airs Sundays at 1:00 AM.
Got a funny (and PG rated) Valentine's Day story? Share it with us! Let us know what your fave romantic blues songs are!
