In Layman Terms, LIVE! At Our New Time!

This week (8/31/13) starts a new chapter in Time For the Blues! We will now be heard at the earlier time of 11:00 p.m. and we hope you will tune in to find out what all the fuss is about. We promise we’ll bring the same great music and the same bad jokes, just now at a new time.

We searched high and low to find a way to celebrate our new time slot, and we finally found a great group that was both amazing and fit in with our senses of humor; the brother and sister duo of Cole and Logan Layman, better known as In Layman Terms.

Henry and I met these intrepid teens when I was a judge at the River City Blues Society of Virginia Blues Challenge show in June. We saw nine or ten amazing acts that afternoon and made some really good friends, including some talented bands whose music we are delighted to share with you tonight.

There was only one group there that day that couldn’t drive themselves to the show – Cole and Logan Layman, who worked as an old school duo. I have to admit, I wasn’t a believer in the group at first. When they came on stage, Logan was carrying a bass guitar that was taller than she was. My new friend, Bluzndablood Dave who hosts a very cool blues podcast, warned me that they were great. I thought that might be the free drinks talking, but the second that Cole started playing I knew we were going to hear some great things, and then when Logan started singing, I knew we were seeing something extraordinary.

Talking to mom Sandra after the show, I truly wanted to have them on the show, but since we’re on so late, I was afraid that might not work out. Fortunately, Sandra, Logan and Cole were able to spend an afternoon with us in our studio recently so we can share our enthusiasm for the Laymans with you. (Check out the short audio sample below from our session!)

So tune in for some EXCLUSIVE live recordings done in our studios as well as some conversation with these talented blues players. As a bonus, you can also see In Layman Terms perform live at the Capital Ale House Downtown Music Hall this Friday (8/30) at 5:00 p.m. for the free Blues and Brews concert!

But we’ve got more on the show just from that great afternoon at the Blues Challenge. We’ve got selections from Lisa Miller and Herbie D And The Dangermen and you won’t want to miss them. We’ve also got a selection from Joe Bonamassa as a warm up for his next appearance at the Landmark Theatre in November (11/9/13).

There are also recent sides from Tas Cru and Detroit Frank DuMont to round out the hour.

So be sure to stop by for a while and enjoy listening to our nonsense at our new time. We’re starting at 11:00 p.m., and we’ll be the last thing you hear on Saturday night. And if you’re joining us for the first time, please take a moment to drop us a line and let us know what you would like to hear--we'll do right by you!
