Join us for TWO, count 'em TWO special programs this Saturday (7/5/14) as 88.9 WCVE airs the special Beatles in America at 1:00 p.m. and then later at 11:00, Time for the Blues features British blues through the 60's as well as some great bluesy tracks from the Beatles! Lots of great tunes for your holiday weekend!
So, blues fans, this one will be short and sweet as things are pretty hectic at Time for the Blues HQ! Getting in lots of great stuff and John and I are planning to throw some at you in the weeks to come! But for now, when we found out our station would be airing a cool Beatles special this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. we thought "hey...didn't we do a Beatles Blues Special a long time back that aired right after a special for Sgt. Pepper's 40th Anniversary?" Darn right, we did...back in 2007! I dug it up and it was pretty darn good! We won't play the enitre show but we thought to compliment the Beatles in America special earlier in the day, we'd focus on British Blues and of course a sampling of "The Bealtes and the Blues", our catchy title for that special!
Well, we're giving you a taste of about everything British in the show...maybe even some bangers and mash! How's this for a lineup that will cover the early 60's and into the 70's...The Yardbirds (still my personal fave Brit blues band), John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (with Eric Clapton, of course), a great find of ours from 2009, Killing Floor (from 1969) and how about blues from a couple of heavyweights--The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin? The Stones piece you may not have heard before--it's from their late 1968 British TV special (you know the one where The Who stole the show from them--or so SOME people say...).
One last treat for you this week...another great find (by accident)...what is agreed on as the very first Britsh authentic blues group, Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated! I found their first release from 1962 and they really could play! Loose and wild...they actually faithfully follow the Chicago Blues tradition! Check out the audio sample!
So be sure to catch Beatles in America at 1:00 p.m. Saturday and then find time for a nap later and stay up for more great British blues with us! Time for the Blues with John Porter and Henry Cook airs Saturdays at 11:00 p.m.
