It’s become an annual tradition for Quatro na Bossa to pay a visit to our studios. Recently (on our July 16th broadcast) the quartet came by to give us a preview of their upcoming appearance Friday evening, July 19th at the Singleton Center - part of VCU’s Guitar and Other String Series.
Quatro na Bossa was founded in 2003. They built their repertoire on a foundation of classic bossa nova tunes and in the last several years have dug deeper into the musical traditions of Brazil. The songs they perform in this segment include tunes by Jobim, Gaetano Veloso, Dorival Caymmi and others. Friday evening’s program at VCU promises to offer even more variety with the additions of VCU Faculty Members Skip Gailes on flute and Darryl Harper on clarinet. The members of Quatro na Bossa are Laura Ann Singh on vocals, Kevin Harding on guitar, Andy Brockman on percussion and Rusty Farmer on bass. I spotlighted their most recent recording, “Bossa Nossa” in an interview earlier this year. Listen here. “Bossa Nossa” also features Rogerio Boccato on drum set and percussion.
