Before the summer slips away into the fall, it’s time to check out some of the most recent releases that have hit my desk. We’re expecting a big shipment for the fall, so be sure to head back here soon, and in the meantime, here are a few things you’ll be hearing on Time For The Blues in the near future.
Sometimes it's great to just take a journey into sound through the visual of pictures. So for this week's blog about this week's World Music Show (8/22), I'll attempt to express just that. And, in another attempt, I'll try to limit the verbiage I usually give to these blogs and try, hard as I might, to just skim through the highlights. Because when it comes down to it, the best way to experience the World Music Show is just tune in.
We hope you will join us this week (8/15/15) on Time for the Blues as Henry and I are celebrating our 9th Anniversary on the air! That’s right, the little show that we thought might make it six weeks has somehow stuck around for nine years of great music and really bad jokes! (Important note about Kenny Wayne Shepherd show Friday 8/14 below!)
Sometimes I'm all about the phrases or just phrasing in general. There's something fun about word play that makes me giddy. I feel the same way about playing around with the genres and styles of World Music. So, on this week's World Music Show (8/15), I'll be doing just that--hence the header "Soup to Nuts."
And if you can't guess what the show will be like from that headline, just understand that it basically means we'll be covering a bunch of styles...a swath, if you will, of musical styles cut from the cords of world beats.
Podcasts and playlists make the perfect companion for long drives as Richmonders rush to take vacations before the hot, lazy summer fades away. Following in the footsteps of our parent station NPR, WCVE staff pulled together a list of our favorite summer songs by (mostly) local bands to accompany you on your end of summer journey. Take a listen and tell us what you think!
