Nomadic Travels

It’s amazing to me how many themes I can squeeze out of the idea of “world” and “travel.” For instance, on this week’s World Music Show (8/19), we’re going to be taking some nomadic travels.

This is thanks in part to some new music from a band who, after a 10-year-hiatus, has a new CD out and in which they describe themselves as musical nomads. What could be better than that as a description or theme for this week’s show? It’s hard to beat.

So, be prepared to have this theme beaten to death on this week’s show—well, ok, it won’t be too bad.

Let Them Eat Cake!

There’s one thing I know about the month of August—and it’s that those who’s birthdays fall in this month—like a tad bit of attention. Now, I know I’m stereotyping the Leo a bit, but it’s ok because Hello, my name is Ian, and I am Leo. Sure, I may be adding to this profile by declaring publicly or blog-icaly, that it is my birthday month too. But I do this bearing gifts.

It’s a Female’s World

We’re celebrating the world of female Latin musicians on this week’s World Music Show (8/5). From all over the Latin spectrum, we’ll checkout some top-rated musicians who are distinct, experimental and just plain amazing. It’s going to be two hours of some spectacular music. And to get you ready, here’s a bit of a primer.

New Release: Leonard Bernstein - Complete Solo Works for Piano

Pianist Andrew Cooperstock releases this new recording of the piano works by Leonard Bernstein on Bridge Records. The two-disc recording marks the centennial celebration of Bernstein's birth and features collections dedicated to friends and colleagues, as well as two larger works for solo piano. As Cooperstock states, "Leonard Bernstein was one of the most significant American musical figures of the 20th century and it has been an honor to have performed his works throughout my career.
