You know, during this time of year, there are a lot of lists floating around. From Christmas & Channukah Wish Lists, to "Best Of" lists to grocery lists to major to-do lists. So, on this week's World Music Show (12/20), I'll jump on the bandwagon by giving a quick list of what to expect during my annual World Music Holiday Show.
We hope you’ll stay up late with us this Saturday (12/20/14) at 11:00 p.m. for Time for the Blues, because we’ve got the kind of blues that will get you through the stressful times and maybe put a smile on your face and make you want to wiggle on the dance floor! (If you don’t have a dance floor, then wiggle in the kitchen a little bit...) And if you miss us this week, then be sure to catch us again on Christmas Night at 9:00 – more on that later!
Ok, Ok--we can't escape it. We're too far in, so we might as well accept it. So, whether you're a Scrooge or a proud holiday-sweater-themed-wearing embracer of the season, this week's World Music Show (12/13) may good for whatever side of the holiday fence you happen to fall on. However, this isn't the annual World Music Holiday Show--that'll come next week.
Here are Lanny Fields’ picks for the best albums of the year. This year’s list is marked by the inclusion of several debut and one-off recordings from recently formed ensembles, as well as small-bands featuring just two or three members; although a few old favorites did once again make the cut. Also notable this time around is a turn toward the noisier, freer, more avant-garde side of the musical spectrum, alongside groups representing traditional Appalachian and Irish music.
