Time to Explore

It’s tired and perhaps a tad trite, but I do have to say that this week’s World Music Show (5/26) is going to be very global. I mean, just looking over my list, you’ll hear music from Palestine, Italy, Senegal, Sweden by way of New York and practically all points in South America will be covered.

So let’s start exploring.

Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale Performs Bernstein & Forrest This Weekend

The Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale will present a program featuring works by Leonard Bernstein and Dan Forrest this weekend. Performances are Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. (Grace Baptist Church in Richmond) and Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. (Duncan Memoral United Methodist Church in Ashland). Music Director Ryan Tibbetts will conduct the singers and orchestra, and nationally-renowned organist Daniel Stipe will accompany and perform.

Call it Euphoria

I’ve got the best feeling. It’s almost euphoric. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s falls pretty low in terms of overall importance. Here it is: the World Music Show (5/19) is current! Yep, it’s true. That’s the reason I’m giddy. Or a tad giddy (you don’t want to be too giddy).

Richmond's Own Mason Bates Talks About His Works

Recently named the most-performed composer of his generation, Mason Bates serves as the first composer-in-residence of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. A native Richmonder, his music “enlivens imaginative narrative forms with novel orchestral writing, the harmonies of jazz and the rhythms of techno, and it has been the first symphonic music to receive widespread acceptance for its unique integration of electronic sounds.”
