Looking into the crystal ball for this week’s World Music Show (11/19), I see that I’ll be Playing for Change. Is there a double meaning behind this? Plus, on the horizon, I notice that we’ll find out just what’s happening in Pernambuco, Brazil. And we’ll head to the Oasis (no, not the band Oasis) to hear some very interesting tunes, including a couple from two local bands.
By the looks of things, meaning in the astrological charts or in the tea leaves, all points are aiming that this week’s World Music Show (11/12) will be a good one. However, as always, please no wagering or offsite betting.
It’s going to be a sort of a throwback on this week’s World Music Show (11/5), however, it’ll also be tinged with a current thread that will all come together at the end. Sound vague but tantalizing enough to draw you in for a couple of hours? Good.
The Richmond Ballet will be presenting TRIO this weekend (November 4-6) at the Carpenter Theatre, featuring three strikingly different ballets. “The Kingdom of the Shades” from Marius Petipa’s classic full-length ballet “La Bayadere” (music by Ludwig Minkus) will open the show, followed by Ma Cong’s “Lift the Fallen” with music by Max Richter and George Balanchine’s “Slaughter on Tenth Avenue” (music by Richard Rodgers and Hershy Kay).
The news of Bob Dylan winning the Nobel prize for literature inspired me to check out 1967’s low-key but enduring John Wesley Harding, an album I had long overlooked. Many of the songs on JWH were already familiar, including All Along the Watchtower, but I was immediately struck by track 2. As I Went Out One Morning was a cut I had never heard before.
