It’s time once again for the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival and Academy! The festival features symphonic and chamber concerts, workshops and clinics over a four-week period from July 8th to August 5th. It attracts first-rate musicians to participate as performers and educators, as part of the Wintergreen Summer Music Academy.
Charles Overton is a native Richmonder and a former member of the American Youth Harp Ensemble (now the Greenspring American Youth Harp Ensemble). He’s based in Boston, having graduated from Berklee College of Music and he maintains an active career playing jazz, classical, world music and just about anything else that he finds an interest in.
Summer has barely began (not officially, I know), and already you may think that I’m throwing in the towel when it comes to lining up some good shows. You may think I’ve grown soft and lazy when coming up with themes. Whatever you think after hearing this week’s World Music Show (6/23), know this: I’m just a tad cramped for time.
Ok, that headline is clearly a play on the cliche. But, I’d like to confess that I do have some “daddy issues” for this week’s World Music Show (6/16). And the issues lie squarely with me in that, being a father, I have no problem with sharing my World Music tastes and library with my kids.
Don’t let that title scare you. On this week’s World Music Show (6/9) neither of those things will happen. However, it is a reference to one of the first tracks we’ll be hearing from the latest CD by Angelique Kidjo. But more on that in a moment.
For the roundabout overview, for those in a rush, this week’s show will be filled a bit of new music, a bit of 2-Tone music, some Irish tracks and a chunk of percussion.
