Pianist Shai Wosner Talks with Mike Goldberg

Pianist Shai Wosner has gained international recognition for his creative insight and broad range of repertoire, ranging from Beethoven and Mozart to Schoenberg and Ligeti. I recently had the chance to talk with him about his new recording (released June 3), which pairs concertos and solo pieces by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) and György Ligeti (1923-2006).

The World in a Snapshot

Listen: This past week was a little tough. Life threw me just a little too many curve balls, which made it hard to write out an overview for the show. So for this week’s World Music Show (6/4), I thought I would stoop to doing a basic and random photo essay.

The photos, which don't included everyone on the show, are tagged and as mentioned they’re in no particular order. You’ll just have to tune in to hear when I play some of the below artists. I may mention a bit or two about them as well.

A World Music Picnic

I'm in a bit of a pickle for this week's World Music Show (5/28). You see, it's a holiday weekend, which brings to mind summer, picnics and the like. But to wrap a theme around these images, especially a "World Music" theme is no picnic. In fact, after careful consideration, I think it's best to remember that it's all about the music. And that on this particular holiday, the two driving forces I'm dealing with don't match.

Kick Off The Summer Season With Scorching Hot Blues

Henry and I hope you will make plans to join us this Saturday night (5/28/16) starting at 11:00 p.m. as we prepare for the unofficial beginning of summer by bringing you some scorching hot blues!

It’s not a blues song by any means, but we all remember that Buster Poindexter number from years ago – the one with the chorus, “Hot, hot, hot!” Not many people know that was written with a Richmond summer in mind.
