Acclaimed violinist Rachel Barton Pine has released a new album celebrating the solo violin works of Nicolo Paganini. “Bel Canto Paganini” features the 24 Caprices, as well as the Introduction and Variations on ‘Nel cor più non mi sento’ from Paisiello’s “La molinara,” the Duet for One, and Caprice d’adieu.
What’s going on for this week’s World Music Show (5/27)? Well, it’s a star-studded, full blown celebration of some newly released CDs. Or is that overselling it a bit? Either way, there is some great tunes lined up for this week. And, just to give you a taste, here’s a brief menu run-down.

Pianist Jorge Federico Osorio is “an imaginative interpreter with a powerful technique” (The New York Times). Here he pairs the final solo piano works by Franz Schubert and Johannes Brahms. Included on the two-disc set are the Schubert Sonatas D. 959 and D. 960, as well as Brahms Op. 116 through Op. 119.
The Virginia Arts Festival based in Hampton Roads is celebrating it's 20th anniversary. As this season winds down, the festival presents the Requiem by Hector Berlioz, featuring the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, joined by The Choral Arts Society of Washington. This performance will be held at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk Saturday evening (May 20th) at 8:00 p.m.
