Saxophonist Charles Owens is releasing a new recording on the Richmond label Jellowstone Records. The Album is called “A Day with Us” and features drummer Devonne Harris and bassist Andrew Randazzo. I invited Charles to come to our studios to perform some of the music off of his new recording. They perform Frank Loesser’s “Slow Boat to China,” an original called “Dutch,” Gershwin’s “The Man I Love,” and the Ellington/Tizol classic, “Caravan.”
Every now and then you’ll see superstars like Jeff Beck and Suzanne Vega dissing stadiums and larger concert halls for more intimate venues. If you look carefully online you’ll find Vega in a bookstore with an equally famous bass player from NYC.
What came first...the artists or the proverbial egg? A bit of humor navigating the great musical talent pool that will populate the 30th Anniversary Concert for The Electric Croude coming up on November 17th.
There's a few things going on for this week's World Music Show (10/31). Sure, they'll be some Halloween-inspired World Music tunes but, to be in the spirit of the day, that's just the tip of the knife or the start of the candy meltdown. The bulk of the show will be a shuffled up mess of songs, in which we jump locales, genres and styles. Plus, added in just for kicks, they'll also be some great cover tunes just to keep the flow going.
We hope you’ll join us on Time for the Blues this Saturday night (10/31/15) at 11:00 p.m.--yes, Halloween night, and hopefully long after the last trick or treater has rung your doorbell looking for a sugary handout, and you’ve settled back to relax for the first time in weeks. Maybe you’ve taken a couple of minutes to rifle through your kid’s candy looking to scope out your favorites.
Surely the little ghosts and goblins won’t miss just one lousy candy bar, right?
