In Your Ear Episode 39: Birds of Chicago

JT Nero is a product of the Windy City. His wife Allison Russell is a native of Montreal. His rough-as-a-cob soulful snarl is perfectly complemented by her soaring, like-butter vocals. In 2012, JT and Allison forged their music and their lives together forming the band Birds of Chicago, that strives to take a thoughtful and poetic look at love and life. They hit the road with their baby daughter Ida and a fine band including Michelle McGrath on guitar and vocals and Chris Merrill on bass, and never looked back. Much to the critics delight, and ours.

In Your Ear Episode 38: Malpass Brothers/Doug Deming & The Jewel Tones

This edition of In Your Ear is a double dose of authenticity starting with a captivating brother duet who not only look but sound like they could be contemporaries of honky tonk heroes like Ernest Tubb, Faron Young and Webb Pierce. Their retro persona is way more than just an act…it’s an earnest and loving effort to preserve an era of country music that for many people defines it. Down to earth authenticity not part of today’s mainstream commercial country.

An Ode to France

On this week's World Music Show (11/28), we'll give a musical nod to France. From acoustic to Django-inspired tunes, to even some electronic and acrobatic gypsy pop music, I'll cover some very swinging music. Plus, on the outskirts of all that, we'll hear some local reggae music from the Mighty Joshua as well as some Bombay beats.

Hot Leftovers 2015!

We hope you will join us this Saturday night (11/28/15) at 11:00 p.m. on Time for the Blues as Henry and I bring our own unique spin to the Thanksgiving Holiday, the annual “Hot Leftovers” show. It’s a show that takes a year to put together and only an hour to enjoy, but it won’t mean much if you’re not there to enjoy it with us. Even our pic here is leftover from last year's show! (If you're going to do leftovers...do 'em right!)

Jimmy Burns, Dave Weld, Tommy Castro and Allen Toussaint Tribute!

We  hope you will join us this Saturday Night (11/21/15) as Time for the Blues howls at the late night moon and brings you some great blues for your listening pleasure. Henry and I have been cooking up a fun little show and we think you will enjoy it so much you’ll want to bring along your friends.

Here’s the most obvious statement you’ll encounter today: Henry and I make a lot of mistakes.
