We asked Ian Stewart, host of The World Music Show, if he had any holiday gift ideas for world music lovers. Here's what he said...
Yes, it's that time of year, which means it's time for the annual World "Holiday" Music Show (12/21)! Peppered throughout the two-hour program will be tunes not normally heard during the holiday season. Then, mixed throughout the rest of show, will be songs that fit perfectly into this time of year.
Ok, I'll admit it. It's halfway through December and I'm already burned out. Perhaps that's a normal thing this time of year, right? In any event, becuase of this rush of things to do, see, touch, feel, experience, etc., I decided that it's time to mellow out--at least for a couple of hours. So, on this week's World Music Show (12/14), we'll keep the tempo at an even keel. And though most of the show will follow this mantra, there will be spots of sound that will ensue a bit of glee and foot tapping.
NPR posted its list of the 50 Favorite Albums of 2013 earlier this week, which prompted me to come up with a list of my own. I didn’t do a whole lot of active searching for new music in 2013, instead I let it come to me. I don’t have 50 worth mentioning, but here are my 13 favorites from 2013. Some are from 2012 but I didn't hear them until this year!
Like throwing spaghetti pasta against the wall, sometimes you have to throw a theme out into the world ether to see if it sticks. On this week's World Music Show (12/7), I'll do just that. And from the looks of it, I think this theme will be a winner. In a matter of just two hours, we're going to travel the world from A to Z, musically speaking of course. With 26 letters to get through, will there be enough time? Or will a letter and song be left out in the cold like a dangling participle? You'll have to tune in to find out.
From A to C:
Perhaps this week's headline should should read "Pull up the Covers!" Or "Covering the Covers," would be even better. How about you pick which headline best suits this week's World Music Show (11/30)? In case you can't figure out the theme for this week's show from those three headers, I'll fess up. It's my annual "World Music Covers" show.
