What says the holidays more than a bunch of chestnuts in a Target bag? Join us on Time for the Blues this week (12/18/11) as we play some of our favorite "old" chestnuts from our early years! And for dessert, another episode of the "The Goldwax Story!"
First things first. Let me explain the title of this week's blog and in-so-much, the theme of this week's World Music Show (12/10). The title refers to a group called The Supreme Beings of Leisure. They play this wordly, loungy sort of music whose grooves just feel good when the volume is turned up. But more about this style of music in a bit. Let's run down the list of what to expect in the minutes leading up to the chunk of Lounge music.
Autumn and Christmas are the two fave times of the year for special musical programming on the Croude. Both pass all too fast for me....as quickly as leaves on trees are gone or the first snowflakes sometimes vanishing in our subtropical climate.
Do you have someone on your list this holiday season who loves World Music but you don't know your Afrobeat from your K-pop? Well, fear not, for I have come up with a list of some of the best gift choices to get that World Music lover on your list. Think of this as my gift to you--and if you end up purchasing any of the music I've listed below through our website, then WCVE will get a small gift as well. It's a holiday win-win, so let's get started.
Once, a few years ago, I was in the dark when it came to World Music. I assumed that the term World Music meant music from, you know, other parts of the world beside my own backyard. Well, fast forward a few years--and a few 100 shows of my World Music Show and I've come to learn that yes, Ian, there is World Music in your own backyard. And in fact, there is World Music to be found from all over the United States.
