Virginia Opera will be performing Gilbert & Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore this weekend at the Carpenter Theatre. Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor Adam Turner and bass-baritone Jake Gardner (Sir Joseph Porter) stopped by the 88.9 WCVE studios to discuss the opera and the company’s production.
So, about this week’s World Music Show...which by the way falls on this Saturday 11/22/14, will be jammed packed with a whole bunch of goodness. From Tropical Discotheque music, to desert blues music to classic French pop music by a racontour, this week's show will be filled with sounds that reach far beyond the typical. So, come with me now, as we examine, albeit briefly, on a tour a what to expect for this week.
I love physical media. I’m thinking of CDs particularly. Although CD liner notes are not always accurate, if they are fairly comprehensive, they do go a long way toward helping me research the music, the musicians and stories on The Sound of Swing and to put them in a broader context. There may be something that catches my attention in those details or in a song itself and I’ll head to my internet browser to get more details.
On this week's World Music Show (11/15), it's all about the Funk, Roll and Grooves. From Spanish alternative music, to electronic tango music to Tuvan throat singing, I think this week's World Music will run the gamut of sounds and genres. So, if you're game, then check out this snippet of what's to come.
Henry and I hope that you’ll join us this weekend (11/15/14) on Time for the Blues because this is one of those shows that people are going to be talking about for a long time. And we mean in a good way, not the way that people usually talk about us. Relax, kick back, and turn the volume way up (Henry says make sure your dial goes up to 11) and you just might find out we’re a great way to end a Saturday night!
