So Henry Cook and I finally got a chance to step out Sunday afternoon (9/9/12) and catch a great show. Li’l Ronnie sent us an invitation to his Harmonica Revue (hereafter referred to as “Harmonica Hooligans”) featuring The Grand Dukes and Mitch Kashmar, Kurt Crandall, and Bob Corritore. Counting Li’l Ronnie, that’s four – count ‘em – four masters of the harp on one stage.
Ok, I'll admit it. That headline is just a clever ploy to get you to read this week's missive about The World Music Show (9/8). I mean, it doesn't hurt to be topical right? But when you think about it, what could be better than a group of people getting together to state the following platform: We like to hear music from around the globe! And we will not rest until sounds from every corner of this fine planet are heard!
Heart/Richard White/Suzanne Vega/Rush/Jeff Beck/Kati Mac/U2/Apocalyptica/Twisted Gypsies/Blind Faith/ PJ Harvey
There used to be a time when musicians, particularly some well known Rock n' Rollers, sang about wanting to die before they got old; or they captured youth and music in such a way as to think that they were center of the universe. Ah, youth. On this week's World Music Show (9/1), we'll take that theme and turn it on it's head. We'll feature at least six bands and musicians who have deftly defied this axiom and have been able to profit--both musically, and albeit, financially (I guess. I mean, I don't have access to such things) from being able to maintain longevity.
With every change of season or move toward a big event, such as school starting, there always seems to be a lull that precedes such a pending cross-over. Now that lull--if we're strictly talking about school starting--seems to come from one faction (namely the kids going) as opposed to the europhia from the other faction (namely, the parents). But a change in season can bring about the same results. It's with this conundrum that I base this week's World Music Show (8/25) around.
Join us for some primary blues education and more silly movie stuff this week on Time for the Blues (8/26/12) as Henry and I will play nothing but "Classic" blues by the most legendary names! It's a great way to start being a blues fan!
