On this week’s World Music Show (10/1), we’ll create a travelogue of musical souvenirs, with highlights in alternative Portuguese tunes, as well as some Rock-n-Roll tracks out of Russia. Plus, we’ll hear a melding of African & Brazilian music, as well as some groovy Gypsy songs.
Get ready to spread your wings and some Big Noise on this week’s World Music Show (9/24). That’s right, we’ll check out some Funky Tropicalismo music which has a big band sound to it, plus we’ll get a Brazilian groove going with Bebel Gilberto and a few others. And if that weren’t enough for you, how about some world music covers of some of your favorite pop songs? Don’t be shy, come read what’s up for this week’s show.
The Grammy-nominated Chiara String Quartet plays by heart, in other words without the music! They are renowned for “bringing fresh excitement to traditional string quartet repertoire as well as for creating insightful interpretations of new music.” The ensemble is comprised of Rebecca Fisher and Hyeyung Yoon (violins), Jonah Sirota (viola) and Gregory Beaver (cello).

The 19th Alexander Paley Music Festival takes place this weekend at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church on Chippenham Parkway. Performances take place tonight (Friday) at 7:30 p.m., Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. All concerts are free to attend!
