New Release: Yo-Yo Ma Plays Bach

For decades Sony Classical has been accompanying superstar cellist Yo-Yo Ma on his journey with Bach.  This single CD brings together important and highly praised landmarks from that journey, beginning in 1982, the year of Ma’s first recording of the Six Solo Suites, which went on to win the Grammy for “Best Classical Instrumental Performance.”

Digging for Sand Crabs

Sometimes when grasping for themes for the World Music Show (5/3), I need to check the calendar. Because it’s on that, in which I can rely on ideas to wrap a show around. Symphony Musicians of Richmond Present the 4th Annual "Music Unites" Concert

The Symphony Musicians of Richmond will team up with the United Way this week to present their 4th Annual “Music Unites” concert at St. Michael Catholic Church in Glen Allen. The concert will feature conductor Ankush Bahl leading a program that includes Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4, the “Italian.”

New Release: Bel Canto Paganini

Acclaimed violinist Rachel Barton Pine has released a new album celebrating the solo violin works of Nicolo Paganini. “Bel Canto Paganini” features the 24 Caprices, as well as the Introduction and Variations on 'Nel cor più non mi sento’ from Paisiello's “La molinara,” the Duet for One, and Caprice d'adieu.

Pine concludes the album with her own Introduction, Theme and Variations on “God Defend New Zealand,” inspired by Paganini’s legacy of creating virtuosic themes and variations.
