Its fun to have musicians like Mike Stern, Thomas Youngblood, Mike Pope et alia during Guitar Month--but--we’ve got a host of great musicians in our own backyard. And that’s what the show is about this week--concentrating on Virginia pickers.
Its great to have Gerry Laverty as special guest. A fascinating intellect--as you’ll hear in interview--and one of the country’s best songwriters. I’m honored to have 3 of his unrecorded songs performed for us in the studio of Café Croude. There are some just gifted with the talent to create sonic pictures effortlessly. Gerry’s certainly in that category.
As eloquent instrumentally is Richard White, it was an honor to produce his first CD Firefly's Dream. You’ll hear his music ably supported by Kevin Beale. His tune The Deep Gloaming is downright cinematic. Over a decade later I never tire of it. And it goes to show how a Martin guitar can be redefined.
Also within this special hour--a bit of nostalgia from The Christmas Croude Bande with a great song from Steve Fisher, new music from The Taters and David Arn, Stephen Bennett tearing it up acoustically, and on the electric side of things, rarely heard music from country-meister Ray Tolson with a mutual pal--Mr. Will Ray.
I do hope you can join me this late Saturday night at the midnight hour EDT on WCVE Public RAdio. And now the show can be heard ‘round the world literally! When recent guest Jake Hertzog was in India, he tuned in on our simulstream ideastations.org/radio.
If you like what you hear, consider making a pledge at ideastations.org/membership or 1.800.476.8440. The Croude has been listener supported since 1985 and I’m deeply greatful for the support over the years--and the ability to share all this musical talent on a weekly basis.
